Dave Brubeck

Pianist and composer -- via the New York Times. One of the great jazzmen, he worked in many other genres as well, producing a body of work that rivals Ellington's. His incredible virtuosity, inventiveness, and enthusiasm made jazz a joy, and was part of the soundtrack of my childhood. I have a dozen of his albums; they keep rewarding new listens.
