Andrew Sarris

Film critic; importer of the auteur theory to America -- via the New York Times. He helped clue us in to the European New Wave; he championed Hollywood-era greats such as Hitchcock, Hawks, and Ford; and he was in the right place at the right time for the explosion of innovative American films that stretched from 1967 to 1977.
