Phoebe Snow aka Phoebe Ann Laub
Singer, guitarist and songwriter -- via MSNBC. Her absolutely unique and beautiful voice is unforgettable. Her biggest hit was "Poetry Man"; she gave up music full-time in order to take care of her disabled child for more than three decades.
Phoebe Snow was the best! A life not lived for the dollar or the spotlight, she genuinely did choose the road less travelled. This may have difficult for her managers, her friends, even her fans but the care of her daughter, Valerie, was a lasting act of unconditional love, its legacy almost as strong as the voice and the songs, intertwined as it was with her great musicianship. When I think of Phoebe, who I didn't know, never met, its visceral - her voice was a one off, the way she used it unique. I was so looking forward to more records, to more concerts, but we all have to make do with the not inconsiderable legacy of her recorded work.
