Stuart "Woolly" Wolstenholme
Keyboardist and singer, most notably with prog-rock group Barclay James Harvest -- via woollywolstenholme.co.uk.
Not only a keyboard pioneer, but amongst the relatively small but astonishingly die-hard Barclay James Harvest fan-base - always a favourite. This was as much because of his friendliness, approachability, wacky-humour and stage presence as it was for the love of his music.
Met Woolly for a few minutes, backstage after a BJH gig in Manchester , about 1973. Found him an easy person to talk to, discussing his classical influences such as Bruckner. Wooly was free of the trappings of "fame" and came across as genuine guy willing to give time to an enthusiastic fan. I won't forget you Woolly.
A pioneer of the mellotron probably the best exponant of it in it's early form he will be sadly missed.
